The internet, a powerful tool for musicians

The internet has always been a powerful tool for musicians, and we’re not just talking about SoundCloud. Even beyond the techno-fueled EDM world, the music industry has always heavily relied on digital programs to help craft your favorite albums.

In recent years, we’ve seen this reliance shift even further. We first saw an entirely digital music industry during the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic, when it was impossible for artists to get together in person. Online sessions spiked and many musicians learned how to improve through online education courses and workshops. As a result, collaboration was at an all-time high.

Though the worst of the pandemic has passed (or seemed to, at least) the digital music landscape taught through online workshops has stuck around, so much so that musicians, producers, and other industry professionals have begun working and collaborating entirely online in its wake. Though it marks a big change from the past, the internet has provided musicians a plethora of ways to work more efficiently, including online education courses.

Nowadays, musicians can work on their albums in the comfort of their own homes, letting their creative juices flow wherever they please. Unlike the old system, which meant you would be stuck in a recording studio, artists and producers can talk online at a moment’s notice, experimenting with new tracks and finishing albums together online.

The digital music landscape has opened a world of opportunities for artists. Now, you can collaborate with other professionals all over the world, without the need for approval from a stuffy record label executive to sign off on who you work with, where you’re working, how you work—the world is your oyster.

Unfortunately, navigating this new digital landscape isn’t exactly simple, especially when it has become so essential to the music industry as a whole. For songwriters that take on the world with only a guitar in hand, learning how to use the internet to your advantage can be a daunting task. Luckily, there is a solution—remember those online education courses we mentioned earlier?

Here at The Artist Studio Sydney, we’ve watched the music industry like a hawk and evolve every day in order to best fit our artists’ needs. More than anything, we want to help give independent artists the tools they need to succeed in such a confusing and ever-changing landscape, which is why our songwriter’s workshop is geared towards helping artists navigate the online music industry.

The workshop is a full day of working with experienced industry professionals, helping artists understand how to network and collaborate through a number of online avenues, like Zoom.

With small groups (spaces are limited to 20 artists, split into 3-4 groups) you’ll get hands-on mentorship from the source and create your very own demo. Better yet, we’ll actually help you expand your network of collaborators, both interstate and internationally.

Whether you’re an artist looking to get your foot in the door or you simply want to better understand how to navigate the digital music landscape, you don’t want to miss out on our songwriter’s workshop—secure your spot today!
