When GAZAL first walked through the doors of The Artist Studio, she was 17 years old and simply looking for singing lessons.
Working closely with Christian Lo Russo through voice and artist development sessions, it became clear that GAZAL had something special. Her voice was unique, but perhaps even more importantly, she already had a strong creative instinct. Outside of music, she had been writing poetry, something that would eventually become a huge part of her identity as a songwriter.
Christian encouraged her to try a songwriting session.
At first, songwriting didn't come naturally. Like many artists stepping into a writing room for the first time, finding her voice on the page took time. But she committed to the process, showing up week after week, writing constantly and steadily improving.
Over the following years, GAZAL became one of the most prolific writers in the studio, building a catalogue of more than 100 demos. Rather than rushing to release the first song she wrote, she spent time developing her sound, refining her craft, and figuring out who she wanted to be as an artist.
That catalogue-first approach became the foundation of what is now a blossoming career in music.
As her songwriting developed, GAZAL signed with Arcadia Music Company for management and began releasing music. Her early releases started gaining traction on Spotify, landing on playlists and attracting attention from listeners around the world.
She became a finalist in a Triple J Unearthed remix competition, earned regular support from Triple J, and started developing a reputation as one of Australia's most exciting emerging artists.
Today, GAZAL's music has generated more than 15 million views across TikTok and received extensive global editorial support, including placements on New Music Friday across Australia, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Denmark. She has also appeared on Spotify's Fresh Finds AU & NZ and Fresh Finds Global playlists.
Her most recent project, Gods Into Frauds, further expanded her international audience and established her as a truly global emerging artist.
On stage, GAZAL has become known for her commanding live performances. Most recently she joined Nilüfer Yanya's sold-out Australian tour, introducing her music to audiences around the country.
Drawing inspiration from artists such as FKA twigs, Florence + The Machine and Doechii, GAZAL creates alternative pop that balances vulnerability, experimentation and undeniable pop instincts. Her music moves effortlessly between intimacy and intensity, feeling equally at home in a small club room or on a festival stage.
Alongside her artist project, she has developed an impressive reputation as a songwriter, collaborating internationally with producers and writers including Aidan Hogg (Sofia Isella, G Flip), Drew Pearson (Kesha, Phillip Phillips), Dan Gleyzer (SZA, Sabrina Carpenter) and Dandelion (Lewis Capaldi). Her songwriting credits include releases with grentperez, George Alice and Vera Blue.
Her work has been featured by Rolling Stone, Fashion Journal and Triple J, who described her as “one of the country's most adventurous and interesting pop music makers.”
For us, the most important part of the story isn't the playlists, press or streaming numbers.
It's the reminder that artist development takes time.
It looks like showing up every week.
Writing songs that never get released.
Building a catalogue.
Getting better, one session at a time.
GAZAL's journey is proof that when talent meets consistency, remarkable things can happen.
